Worst News Ever : Bordens Will Close

Gang, I have some very bad news to relay, via the new MTA Alumni Weblog, which I just discovered today.

That bastion of Sackville-ness, that most grand of all rural symbols, that most excellent of family dining, the restaurant Bordens, will be closing its doors forever this September. This is surely a sad day in the history of the Maritimes.

What other restaurant is on the other side of town? Where will people go to "get away"? Patterson's? I think not!

What other restaurant has "Piece of cheese" as a line item on the menu? Joey's? No way!

What other restaurant still uses those old cloth-roll-thingies in the washrooms? Alas, not even George's has remained this true to its roots.

I will call and get the details, and post an update here.

Bordens was my favourite place to eat in Sackville. It was the first place I went with my family when they dropped me off for school that first September, and it was a place Morgan and I would go regularly just to go for a walk and get away from the bustle of life in the school and in the town.

I don't think I ever ordered "Piece of cheese" though.

All things must pass, as they say. They've had a good run there, obviously, and I hope it was the right decision for those involved. But I will truly truly miss this place, and I hope I get a chance to head down there for a meal one last time before the doors are sealed up for good.

On a lighter note, MTA just joined iTunesU! Good check out some sweet free learnin's, to the world, direct from Sackville.

Perhaps I'll be able to make it to the Sackville Fall Fair this year too!

Comments:
I am also saddened by Borden's closing...they had the BEST grilled cheese. mmmmmmm "girl guide sandwich"

Anyway, and I have never heard of iTunesU so now I have to go learn about it.
